Malacca (Malay: Melaka) is the capital of the state of Malacca, on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia.

Visiting Malacca is a unique experience with a rich historical and cultural background from previous Portuguese, Dutch and British rule.

The city centre was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2008, along with Georgetown, Penang.

On Monday, I decided to try my hand at the Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) exams, which some claim to be the “CFA equivalent” for trading accreditation.

While I managed to pass, I was pretty sure I could have done better if I had studied for it. 😀

Why am I doing this?

Well, as a trainer, I think it is important to have some accreditation or qualifications (in addition to my double degrees and fund experience) to reassure people of the quality that they are getting. I mean, if you go to see a doctor, you would want to make sure he actually has a medical degree and the proper accreditation, and not simply trust him because he is “famous” or has a cool website/blog/video.

Hopefully, in time to come, MAS or SGX will impose some kind of minimum qualification or accreditations for all trainers, to ensure teaching standards and to prevent a market for lemons.

Wish me luck for Level 2! xD

Last Saturday, I headed back to my Alma Mater (Singapore Management University) to attend our Alumni Day 2014, and was delighted to catch up with all my old school mates and seniors.

The school even arranged for a distinguished professor, Ang Ser-Keng, to provide us with some “tips” on how to invest for our dreams. Surprisingly, even in a business school, investing skills are still mostly lacking after graduation. 😀
